You may have noticed all Multipuload links for STREAMS 39-71 have been taken offline, fallout from the famous Megaupload shutdown. We plan on eventually making these downloads available again through our Bandcamp account, but this may take some time. So if you got the STREAMS the first time around, feel lucky!

In more exciting news, we are finalizing production on the STREAMS 2 box set, due out this year on Blast First Petite. We couldn't be more thrilled as BFP main man Paul Smith has backed some of our favorite music from our lifetime -- Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, Suicide, Pansonic, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Big Black, Butthole Surfers, to name a few. It's a big honor to be among the current BFP roster with heavyweights like John Fahey, Michael Chapman, and Charlemagne Palestine.

STREAMS 2 is an expansion on its predecesor and covers the years 2007-2009, featuring edits and remixes from STREAMS 39-63, plus studio outtakes, radio sessions, unreleased instrumentals and more. More details to come of course ... watch the skies for magic info!!

JFR returns to his alma mater as Excepter performs on checkerboard floors in a former insane asylum-turned dormitory for unlucky sophomores. JFR and NNCK creative director would often lunch here (Taco Bell 69 cents) in formative years of the young people's NYC avant garde scene 94-95. This night we played with Blues Control and Lala's band Imaginary People. Lala provides request for "Pink Panther Theme" on untuned piano as introduction to the enduction.

The last show of the European tour. A long road running up from pilot home at ZDB Lisbon through Porto to Vigo to Bilbao, cutting across to Barcelona, then a mad dash through the Alps to Paris. A slice of hoof if you're lucky. Twenty minutes sleep in a hallway or hushed in a hostel. We lived in gay bars. But he took it too far. The last show with Calder and Caitlin.

Big underground shindig thrown by the dudes in Deerhunter. In fact, Deerhunter main-man Brandon fan-tackled JFR before the set ... and hasn't been seen in the same room since. JFR would burn a few additional bridges (later rebuilt) by telling a long-time school pal that they "were only friends for fifteen minutes." Oddly about the same amount of time the band would let go by in its set before letting the rhythms drop. Magik Markers, Mirror Dogs and The No-Neck Blues Band were all present. Last US show with C&C line-up.

"Self Destruction" recorded 2004 at 382 Jeff Street.

“Self Destruction” … a troubled record, conceived under heavy depression and mixed during serious band infighting. The band performed not as group, but in separate individual overdubbing sessions, abandoning the in-the-red recording quality of previous efforts in favor of a clear, multi-tracked sound. Cook and Martin would leave the band before the release date, making promotion awkward. Anticipating the success of “KA,” the album was printed on both LP and CD simultaneously, but didn't sell as well, leaving unopened boxes of copies gathering dust. Yet, “Self Destruction” would go on to become something of a fan-favorite, being the highest-ranked Excepter album on Rateyourmusic.com and years later, being licensed by artist Doug Aitken for inclusion in his video installation work Migration.

“Self Destruction” digital release comes with three bonus tracks, forming a long, ambient reflection of the album. Two are previously unreleased 2003 instrumentals: “Obedience,” a solo synth system performance by John Fell Ryan, and “Non Leg,” a synth duet between Ryan and Macrae Semans. Both instrumentals were used as backing tracks for the live performances captured on the “Obedience” cassette-only release (777 was 666.) The final bonus track is “Blue Moon” produced by John Fell Ryan for the Phiiliip CD “Divided by Lightning.” Phiiliip's vocal and guitar were recorded on the roof of 382 Jeff Street under the light of the actual blue moon of 2004. During the final and best take of the night, an unmarked, black helicopter buzzed over the building, shining its searchlight onto the performer. (You can hear it on the recording.)

“OUT” is the companion outtakes album – a collection of unreleased demos and practice recordings from late 2003, early 2004, compiled from three CDRs found scattered around 382 Jeff Street, Blackout Sundazed, Self Destruction Demos, and Apartment Living. (Many original Excepter recordings were lost due to hard drive rot in the update wars of 2007-2009.) “OUT” is Excepter at its most unhinged, with the triple vocal interplay of Ryan, Cook and Martin in full, chaotic effect. Blasted by jeep beats and burning through gnarled versions of tracks eventually featured on Alternation and the Burgers 12”, this was music deemed too wiggy for inclusion on the cold moon of Self Destruction.

Early spring 2004 magazine PR party show at converted warehouse with unremembered, unimaginative name like "Warehouse" or something. The place spent unheard of amounts of money soundproofing the pipes on the ceiling but apparently very little greasing local fire dept, who spent most of the early evening marching around sweating. Management was tightly-wound cabal of scandinavians who spent all their energy trying to control a formless mass of interns. Ghost Exits, Freddie Mas, Donna Summer, and many others all played sets. Ariel Pink in the audience.
